Thunder Rosa Recalls Being Hurt By Brock Lesnar's Mariachi Band Segment

The new AEW Women's Champion felt the segment was disrespectful to her culture

While responding to the criticism her bloody AEW Women's Title cage match with Britt Baker received from some after it aired on last week's episode of Dynamite, new champion Thunder Rosa mentioned a segment from WWE SmackDown in 2004 that upset her.

Speaking to NBC Sports Boston's Ten Count, Rosa said:

"Everybody's going to criticise no matter what. Even on Wednesday, people were criticising. 'Why are you guys, why? It's so much blood. Why is it so much, why are you so violent? Why is this? Why is that?'. It's like, people are programmed a certain way and they have been programmed for professional wrestling for decades to be a certain way because of how things have been handled before.

"I can tell you, I read about me bringing the Mariachi and I remember Brock Lesnar making fun of Eddie Guerrero with that. And that hurts because they were making fun of my culture before. And on Wednesday, I represented our culture properly; with honor and with respect. Because people were, 'oh, Mariachi, fun. Like, let's make fun of Mexicans'

Then-WWE Champion Brock Lesnar was played to the ring by a Mariachi band on the February 12, 2004 episode of SmackDown. The Next Big Thing, wearing a sombrero, proceeded to act as band conductor before Eddie Guerrero interrupted and chased him out of the ring.

Latino Heat beat Brock to win the WWE Title three days later at the No Way Out pay-per-view.
