Tony Khan Addresses Mercedes Moné's Forbidden Door II Comments

Tony Khan on a possible Mercedes Moné appearance at Forbidden Door II

Tony Khan has responded to Mercedes Moné's comments in which she hinted at an appearance at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door II on June 25, saying at a recent comic con that she's "gotta get that phone call from unc."

Speaking with Adrian Hernandez of The Bet Las Vegas & The Sporting Tribune, Khan admitted he thought Moné's comments were "very encouraging" and it makes for a "very interesting situation" heading into Forbidden Door II.

"Well, it's a very encouraging thing to hear and I have so much respect for Mercedes (Moné). I think she's such a great pro wrestler and certainly, she's one of the best in the world, and any wrestling company in the world, including AEW, is very fortunate to have Mercedes. Currently, she's the world champion for our partner, New Japan Pro-Wrestling and I think she's a great champion for them and I'm glad she brought up Forbidden Door because that's gonna be a very exciting event and certainly, the shadow of Mercedes is looming large in New Japan Pro-Wrestling right now. And when AEW and New Japan clash at Forbidden Door, it'll be very interesting to see what happens and certainly, she's one of their top stars in New Japan so, it makes for a very interesting situation going forward going into Forbidden Door," Khan said.

Forbidden Door is scheduled for June 25 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Moné is the reigning IWGP Women's Champion, having defeated KAIRI for the belt at Battle in the Valley on February 18. Rumours had suggested Moné would make her AEW debut earlier this year, and it was even hinted at by Britt Baker on Dynamite, but the former Sasha Banks has yet to appear inside an AEW ring.
