Tony Khan Announces The Return Of AEW's Ranking System

AEW are bringing back their Rankings system

When AEW first began back in 2019, the approach to deciding challengers for the titles was mostly centred around the “AEW Rankings”, a system which determined who was the most worthy challenger and the “official” number one contender. Not only did this put win/loss records into account, but also the level of quality with certain victories depending on a wrestler’s opponents. This was used for three years until AEW stopped updating it midway through 2022, moving away from this system.

However, it will now be making a comeback. As announced by Tony Khan on X, this month will see AEW bring back this method of determining title contenders.

“The Rankings are coming back to AEW going forward, starting this month! @AEW is having a very exciting January, and this is only the beginning of an amazing 2024 for AEW and our fans. Thank you all watching Saturday Night #AEWCollision right now on @TNTdrama!”

This was followed up with a confirmation from the announce team during AEW Collision’s main event last night that the AEW Rankings would indeed be resurfacing going forwards.
