Tony Khan Confirms AEW Battle Of The Belts In January 2022

The first of the specials on TNT

Tony Khan has confirmed AEW will present a 'Battle Of The Belts' special in January 2022.

Andrew Zarian of the Mat Men Podcast reported in early November that AEW would be hosting the first of their quarterly television specials on TNT on Saturday 8 January, with a tentative name of 'Battle Of The Belts'.

AEW President Khan has now announced that this is indeed the plan, with the special being presented in the same week as AEW's new television deal across TBS and TNT.

Speaking on the AEW Full Gear 2021 media call, Khan said: "That same week when we launch Dynamite on TBS, we'll have Rampage on TNT, and then we'll have the first-ever Battle Of The Belts in AEW. Stay tuned for more info on that. 2022, we're going to start it in a very big way."

Khan also assured fans that more details regarding the Owen Hart memorial Tournament would be forthcoming following Full Gear.

He added: "There will be updates on the Owen Hart Memorial Tournament after Full Gear. There is so much on the card and so many stories and I didn't want the Owen Hart Cup to lose the focus when I start talking about it. The Owen is going to be a big prize in AEW and I'll have some interesting announcements about it.

"You'll get more announcements and I'll save it for Dynamite or Rampage after the pay-per-view."
