In a recent interview with ESPN's Marco Raimondi, AEW owner Tony Khan spoke about the likelihood of bidding wars over AEW stars in the future, stating: "Yeah, I am [expecting bidding wars]. We have a lot of great wrestlers here. I expect there probably will be down the road interest in some of them, because we're putting on such strong shows. I think there's bound to be free-agent movement. On both sides of the competition. I think it's great for the wrestlers."

Cody Rhodes recently left AEW ahead of a return to WWE, appearing after much speculation at WrestleMania 38 as Seth Rollins' mystery opponent. Cody went on to win the match, and cut a promo the following night on Raw where he set his sights on the WWE Championship (or Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, as it is currently known.)

In certain promos, MJF has already referenced the idea of a "bidding war in 2024", the year his AEW contract expires.

AEW has also signed big names shortly after leaving their WWE contracts, most notably Bryan Danielson and Adam Cole, who made their AEW debuts within moments of one another at All Out 2021.
