Tony Khan Refuses To Comment On CM Punk Media Scrum, AEW All Out Backstage Fight

Tony Khan isn't saying anything about the reported backstage fight in AEW

AEW was in turmoil following the All Out pay-per-view on September 4 after CM Punk took shots at the promotion's EVPs, Colt Cabana, and former world champion Hangman Page during his post-show media scrum. A backstage altercation between Punk, Ace Steel, and The Elite then took place, during which Steel reportedly bit Kenny Omega and threw a chair at Nick Jackson.

The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, CM Punk, and Ace Steel remain suspended while a third-party investigates what happened during the backstage fight.

AEW have yet to publicly acknowledge that an altercation took place, though, and the only mention of a possible problem was on the post-All Out episode of Dynamite when Tony Khan announced he had been forced to vacate the AEW World and World Trios championships.

That stance has ultimately continued and Tony Khan refused to comment on the backstage issues within All Elite Wrestling during an appearance on Rock 105.3's The Show.

After being asked what he was thinking during Punk's media scrum, Khan said: "I can't really comment on any of that."

He was then pressed for an answer but Khan decided to promote Grand Slam instead, adding: "What's going on is, it's the best show in pro wrestling tomorrow night on TBS. AEW Dynamite Grand Slam."

Khan also said: "Since All Out, it's been very newsworthy shows and they've also been some of our best shows and best ratings. That's for a reason. AEW has put on some of our best matches. Right now, there is a lot of excitement in the company, not only with all the big championship fights, people are excited about the return of MJF. That's pretty huge. That's one of the main things we're focused on in AEW."

The AEW President was later asked if the backstage situation hampered MJF's return, but Khan simply refused to comment again before he praised MJF.

"I'm not going to comment again on that, but I will say that MJF's return has been a massive needle mover for AEW and has generated a ton of interest. Having MJF back on Dynamite has been great. That's another reason why we've seen a great ratings bump. He's a great star and a huge part of AEW," he stated.
