Tony Khan Reiterates He Was 'Scared As Hell' During CM Punk Backstage Incident At AEW All In

Tony Khan has opened up about the incident that resulted in CM Punk's AEW departure

When Tony Khan announced that CM Punk's AEW contract had been terminated with cause at the beginning of the September 2 edition of Collision, he noted that he noted that he was left 'fearing for' his life during a backstage altercation at All In (on August 27).

Asked about the incident during a recent appearance on The Dan Le Batard Show, the AEW co-owner said:

"I have not really gone out and discussed that publicly beyond what I said in Chicago. I had to make a really hard decision after what happened and I really appreciate all the fans standing by us and support AEW through this. What happened back there was a really hard day for a lot of people. I don't want to make light of it. It was a really challenging circumstance. It was one of the most incredible things I've been through in wrestling. It was a really hard day at the office for a lot of people and the amazing thing is, we still came through and put a great show out under what were really challenging circumstances. It was important for everybody back there to get it together and have our best show, and we did it."

When asked if it was the most dangerous backstage situation he has ever found himself in, Khan replied "Without a doubt, 100%". Pressed as to whether he genuinely was fearful for his life or whether he was being performative, Khan said "I was scared as hell for a moment there."

While he may have been scared of that situation, he's certainly unafraid to take shots at Vince McMahon.
