Tony Khan Says Future Forbidden Door Shows Will Only Take Place In North America

Will there be a Forbidden Door 2? Not in Japan, according to Tony Khan

The first AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door PPV was a success, and has already prompted talks of a sequel.

NJPW President Takami Ohbari has suggested Forbidden Door 2 could take place in Japan, but AEW President Tony Khan told New York Post’s Joseph Staszewski that any future Forbidden Door events will only take place in North America:

“The idea of doing an event over there with AEW stars and New Japan stars is very potentially interesting, but if it happens it won’t be ‘Forbidden Door.’ ‘Forbidden Door’ is gonna stay in North America. It wouldn’t make sense with the time zones, the revenue,” said Khan.

That seems to suggest that further NJPW/AEW crossover shows are possible, but the brand of ‘Forbidden Door’ will remain in North America. Indeed, AEW’s Wheeler Yuta recently wrestled in Japan for NJPW’s Best of the Super Juniors tournament, whilst Lance Archer will be part of the upcoming G1 Climax, so at this juncture it appears that the New Japan and AEW relationship is as healthy as ever.
