With the inaugural AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door event in the books, we now speculate on the future of the  cross-promotional relationship between the two companies.

Tony Khan has already indicated that a Forbidden Door 2 could be possible, and NJPW President Takami Ohbari has admitted he’d like to host a return event in Japan, saying the following to Tokyo Sports:

"In my opinion, there are some wrestlers who were unable to come (to the U.S.) at the last minute. There are still wrestlers and matches I would like to see. I would like to see a continuation of this event. I think there is a need to see this event in Japan. The 50th anniversary year is a good opportunity to make it happen. I think there are some (AEW wrestlers) who would like to compete in front of Japanese fans."

AEW’s Wheeler Yuta recently participated in NJPW’s Best of the Super Juniors tournament, whilst Lance Archer is set to compete in the G1 Climax tournament, with several AEW stars such as Bryan Danielson believed to be eager for an opportunity to wrestle for NJPW in front of a Japanese audience.
