Tony Khan Talking To Lio Rush About AEW Return

Rush appeared at Double or Nothing 2021

AEW President Tony Khan has contacted Lio Rush about a return to AEW.

Rush made one appearance for the company, debuting at May’s Double or Nothing PPV as the ‘joker’ entrant in the Casino Battle Royale, before retiring from the wrestling business a few days later.

Since then, Rush has appeared for NJPW Strong after being cleared to wrestle after sustaining an ACL injury at Double or Nothing, and although it is believed that Rush is fulfilling obligations, it hasn’t stopped Khan from enquiring about future work.

Taking to Twitter, Khan said:

“I see a lot of tweets talking about Lio Rush today. Coincidentally, I’ve been talking to @TheLionelGreen a lot recently about returning to @AEW, and it feels like something that could happen in the near future.”

As mentioned before, Rush is signed to NJPW, and it is believed his recent matches were pre-agreed appearances before his ACL injury and subsequent retirement.

There has as yet been no confirmation from Khan or Rush as to whether an AEW return is in the books.
