Tony Khan: The Last Thing I Want Is To Handcuff AEW Wrestlers With Scripted Promos

Khan prefers to let his talent write their own stuff

Tony Khan has opened up on AEW's policy of not scripting promos for their wrestlers, saying the last thing he wants to do is 'handcuff' his talent.

AEW allow wrestlers to come up with their own promos for their segments, as opposed to WWE who meticulously script each segment for their talent, with fans seeming to prefer the All Elite Wrestling approach; one which follows how wrestling used to be 20 years ago.

Khan, who grew up a fan of this kind of wrestling and promo style, does not want to hinder his roster's natural ability by making them read from a script.

Speaking on 'Busted Open Radio', Khan said: "I really try to let people cut loose on the promos and build a personal issue. You’re not going to hear somebody reading a script on AEW, the wrestlers go out there.

"Really, when I was a kid, and so many of us who grew up on wrestling, you want to hear pro wrestlers shooting from the hip. You want to hear them showing off their personalities and what makes them so unique.

"The last thing I want to do is handcuff these great men and women. That is why I think people enjoy the interviews and the promos on AEW so much."
