Jul 19, 2024
The card for WWE SummerSlam 2024 is slowly coming together, with several matches confirmed for the second biggest pay-per-view of WWE’s calendar on August 3.
A report from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter suggests that WWE are considering a special guest referee stipulation for one of the main matches on the show.
It has since been reported by WrestleVotes that Seth Rollins will be the special guest referee for CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam in a similar format to SummerSlam 1997 when Shawn Michaels was the official for Bret Hart and The Undertaker's WWE Title match.
"Source states the current plans have Seth Rollins as the special guest referee for the CM Punk vs Drew McIntyre SummerSlam match. Creative is proceeding under the assumption that Punk will be ready for action, with the anticipated clearance date set for the Monday beforehand, 7/29," WrestleVotes tweeted.
CM Punk was at the WWE Performance Center earlier this week looking to get medically cleared for an in-ring return at SummerSlam. Punk has remained present on WWE TV while out of action with a torn triceps, repeatedly costing Drew McIntyre the World Heavyweight Championship.
