Trevor Murdoch Reveals Talks Over Scrapped AEW Match

Trevor Murdoch previously held talks with AEW

The NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship almost made an appearance in All Elite Wrestling.

Speaking on the Wrestling Perspective podcast, Trevor Murdoch revealed he previously held talks with AEW about defending the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title in the promotion but negotiations quickly "fizzled out."

"There was some discussions with AEW, but I think they kind of fizzled out pretty quick because they were talking about the forbidden door and guys getting injured, but I don't think it lasted very long. I'm really not inquiring. I'm focused on the NWA and being a representative for the NWA," Murdoch said.

Murdoch is currently in his second reign as NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion, having regained the gold at the Alwayz Ready pay-per-view in a Four-Way with Nick Aldis, Samuel Shaw, and Thom Latimer. Matt Cardona had been champion but he had to vacate the gold due to injury.

The NWA and AEW have collaborated in the past, most notably when Thunder Rosa was under contract with Billy Corgan's promotion. She later signed full-time with AEW in 2021.
