Friction between Paul "Triple H" Levesque and Vince McMahon over WWE creative in 2023 has been revealed in WhatsApp messages exchanged by Triple H and WWE President Nick Khan.

The text messages were disclosed in exhibits filed in the shareholder lawsuit which alleges that the WWE merger process was unfair and that Endeavor was preselected to assure Vince McMahon's future with WWE. The lawsuit was filed back in November 2023 and the case in the Delaware Court of Chancery remains ongoing.

The exhibits, reported on by POST Wrestling's Brandon Thurston, have revealed that Triple H was frustrated by Vince McMahon's involvement in WWE creative as late as December 2023, at least a couple of months after Triple H had been anointed as head of WWE creative by TKO CEO Ari Emanuel.

In a text message sent by Triple H to Nick Khan on Saturday, December 9, 2023, Levesque wrote: "Was just told by security that VKM is coming to Cleveland TV Monday. What's that about ??????"

The message was related to the December 11 episode of Monday Night Raw from Cleveland. Nick Khan immediately replied, but many of his text messages have been deleted, with Khan claiming in legal filings that he doesn't remember the content of any of the deleted messages.

On December 10, 2023, messages between Triple H and Nick Khan revealed Paul Levesque was disappointed by a conversation with Ari Emanuel, seemingly about Vince McMahon's involvement with WWE creative.

"The more I think about it the more I'm kinda disappointed in that Ari convo…… Seems like we are in the same place , 'I’m gonna tell him to stay out of it or else' that’s way different than 'I’m telling him he’s done ….. it’s over.' Kicking the can down the road," Levesque wrote.

Levesque then suggested in another message to Khan that Ari Emanuel and TKO President Mark Shapiro had backtracked on Vince McMahon being completely removed from WWE creative to a position of McMahon retaining some involvement.

"Between you and I, It feels like they are both backtracking on the 'he’s out' narrative. It’s back to the 'well if he wants to go to the show now and then' and 'if he gives notes and wants to have a 30min meeting now and then, ok,'" Triple H added.

Eight minutes after that message, Triple H texted Nick Khan to suggest that McMahon had emailed Ari Emanuel about the script for WWE Raw.

Triple H and Vince McMahon seemingly butted heads over WWE creative for much of 2023 after McMahon forced his way back into WWE in January of that year in order to sell the company. McMahon's return came just months after the former WWE CEO announced his retirement in July 2022 due to a sexual misconduct and hush money scandal which remains ongoing.

Triple H was appointed head of WWE creative in the wake of Vince McMahon's retirement, and he would take on the official title of WWE Chief Content Officer. Despite the official designation of Triple H's position, though, Vince McMahon began to influence WWE creative in early 2023, which included the main event of WrestleMania 39.

The original plan was for Cody Rhodes to defeat Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title, but previously revealed text messages from McMahon noted that he was involved in plans changing to Reigns winning and Rhodes' finishing the story being pushed back to WrestleMania 40.

Then, just hours after the merger between WWE and UFC was officially announced, McMahon became head of creative once again and made major changes to the Raw after WrestleMania 39 at the last minute and even while the show was on the air.

Following that show, McMahon continued to make last-minute changes remotely to WWE Raw and SmackDown after the shows had been put together by Triple H and the WWE creative team. Reports at the time noted that McMahon's last-minute changes caused enormous frustration behind the scenes, and WWE creative may have taken efforts to "Vince-proof" the company's televised programming to ensure he couldn't make last-minute changes.

Despite those efforts, McMahon continued to be the overseer of WWE creative, making changes remotely as he so desired until the weeks after the WWE-UFC merger was completed in September of 2023 when Ari Emanuel reportedly decided Triple H would fully be the head of creative.

Vince McMahon remained a part of WWE as TKO executive chairman until January 2024, when he resigned in the immediate aftermath of former WWE employee Janel Grant accusing McMahon of sex trafficking, sexual assault, and physical and emotional abuse. McMahon remains a TKO shareholder.
