Trish Stratus Comments On "Perfect" 2019 Retirement

Trish Stratus Has Opened Up About Her 2019 WWE 'Retirement' Match

Trish Stratus is set to return to a WWE ring for the first time in four years at WrestleMania 39, as she teams up with Lita and Becky Lynch to take on the trio of Damage CTRL (Bayley, Dakota Kai, & IYO SKY).

It previously seemed as though Stratus’ career was done and dusted after a supposed retirement match with Charlotte Flair at SummerSlam 2019, where she went out in a losing effort. In many ways, it felt like a strong ending to a great career. In an interview with Graham GSM Matthews of Bleacher Report, Stratus talked about not only her satisfaction with her initial retirement match, but also why she decided to return;

"I don't think it was a conscious choice to go back and say, 'I have more in me.' The Charlotte match was a perfect ending. It was a generational faceoff: The best of that generation against who they say is the best of my generation. It was in Toronto and absolutely perfect, and for that to bring closure, I was very satisfied with that. But then having these little interactions at live events, it was fun to have that generational mix-up. When I retired, I said I'd return if it was fun... and maybe not to pass the torch necessarily but to influence a new generation.”

Whilst it will be Stratus’ first match since 2019, her return will also mark her first match at a WrestleMania since all the way back in 2011 at WrestleMania 27 when she teamed up with John Morrison and celebrity cameo Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi in a winning effort against Lay-Cool and Dolph Ziggler.
