Ric Flair shouldn't have apologised for his controversial AEW Rampage promo that ended up being cut from the broadcast, according to Tyrus that is.
Flair was at the centre of a social media backlash following a November taping of AEW Rampage where he invited women between the ages of 18 and 28 to come to his hotel room with "no boyfriends or husbands", akin to promos he used to cut in the 1980s.
Following the promo, Flair apologised to Tony Khan and said he was willing to leave the promotion if he was an embarrassment. Flair remains a part of All Elite Wrestling, although Wooooo! Energy are effectively paying AEW to have him on TV.
"I Am So Tired Of Hearing All This Negativity! I Don't Need To Work, And I Don't Need The Money. Can't I Simply Enjoy Being By My Dear Friend @Sting’s Side For The Next Few Months Without So Much Hatred? I Know I'm Old, But That Doesn't Mean I Can't Enjoy Life! I Have Earned The Right To Do Whatever I Want & I'm Exactly Where I Want To Be! I Appreciate Everything @TonyKhan, But I'm More Than Willing To Walk Away If I Am Embarrassing You And Your Company. All I Can Say Is I'm Sorry!" Flair tweeted.
Flair made an appearance on Fox News ahead of the New Year as a guest on 'A New Year with Tyrus.' Tyrus took issue with the 16-time world champion having to apologise, though, saying: "I have to be honest with you, I have a little bit of beef with you. You put a post out where you had the temerity to think that maybe you shouldn't have walked out there at AEW. Let me remind you of who you are. You have forgotten more wrestling than most of us will ever know. You are one of the last greats that when you come out, and walk that aisle, a grandfather can look at his grandson and say 'I saw this guy wrestle and this is the reason why you're here.'
"Don't you ever, and I don't comment on social media that much, but don't you ever apologise for Ric Flair coming out because when you come out, that pop is as loud as it's ever been. I have to remind you of two things. Diamonds are forever and so is Ric Flair. You need to remember that. Thank you for who you are, sir. You are welcome at any wrestling arena at any time because you just walking by the locker room, we're all going to get smarter."
Flair was brought into AEW as Tony Khan's present for Sting as part of The Icon's retirement tour. Flair was not ringside on December 30 for Sting's match at Worlds End where he teamed with Darby Allin, Chris Jericho, and Sammy Guevara against Ricky Starks, Big Bill, Konosuke Takeshita, and Powerhouse Hobbs.
