Universal Championship Match Confirmed For WWE Extreme Rules 2021
Another opportunity for Finn Bálor
Sep 10, 2021
WWE have confirmed that Finn Bálor will get another opportunity to take the Universal Championship from Roman Reigns at Extreme Rules 2021.
Bálor and Reigns faced each other for the Title in the main event of Friday Night SmackDown last week, with The Tribal Chief having to rely on a pre-match beatdown by The Usos and a low-blow to eventually get the better of The Prince, retaining his Championship.
WWE have now announced that, due to the assault on him before his Title Match on the September 3 SmackDown, Bálor will receive another opportunity at the Universal Championship at Extreme Rules on Sunday 26 September.
The first-ever WWE Universal Champion is looking to regain the Title he never lost, having defeated Seth Rollins to become the inaugural champion at SummerSlam 2016. However, injury forced Bálor to vacate the belt just 24 hours later.
Reigns, meanwhile, has held the Universal Championship for over a year, winning the Title in a Triple Threat Match also including 'The Fiend' Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman in August 2020.
