Update On Gunther's WWE WrestleMania 42 Status Amid Ongoing Absence

Gunther's ongoing absence from WWE TV entered its third week after the two-time World Heavyweight Champion was nowhere to be seen on the March 23 episode of Monday Night Raw.

Gunther has yet to be booked for WrestleMania 42, but WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select has reported that WWE sources have claimed Gunther is still expected to have a "substantial role" at the Showcase of the Immortals. It was noted within WWE that Gunther missing WrestleMania 42 wouldn't benefit anyone involved.

Gunther has not appeared on WWE TV since he ripped off Dragon Lee's mask on the March 2 episode of Monday Night Raw on his way to defeating the former WWE World Tag Team Champion. The angle was reportedly done to set up a feud between Gunther and Rey Mysterio, which would have led to a match at WrestleMania.

Those plans were changed, however, due to Rey Mysterio being on the shelf with fractured ribs that he suffered during a match with Austin Theory on the go-home episode of Raw before the Royal Rumble. Mysterio was able to wrestle a two-minute cameo in the men's Royal Rumble match, but he has been out of action ever since and it is unknown when he will be cleared to return.
