Vince McMahon’s day-to-day involvement with WWE came to an end on January 26 after the 78-year-old resigned as TKO Executive Chairman. McMahon’s resignation came after he was accused of sex trafficking, sexual assault, and physical and emotional abuse by former WWE employee Janel Grant, with McMahon resigning after sponsors began to pull out of supporting WWE.

John Laurinaitis was also accused of sexual assault in the lawsuit, although he has since claimed he is a victim. WWE were accused of attempting to cover up the allegations against McMahon.

Some have questioned if the civil suit could eventually lead to criminal charges being filed against McMahon. Speaking with John Pollock and Brandon Thurston on POST Wrestling, Sportico’s Michael McCann stated criminal charges could be filed in the future but “we’re not anywhere near that yet.”

McCann then added: “The filing of a civil lawsuit is by no means the precursor to a criminal act... This risk to this case, though, to McMahon, is that if this does lead to evidence that does suggest things were really bad, that could potentially be detrimental to him in terms of a possibility of a criminal charge.”

Since the filing of the lawsuit, it has been stated that Janel Grant is hoping that other alleged victims will join her in taking legal action against McMahon. Grant’s lawyer has also claimed there has been a “barrage of people” looking to come forward about WWE’s “culture of corruption.”
