Rumours have swirled about Brock Lesnar and his booking within WWE over the past week which took on a life of their own and led to claims that Brock Lesnar didn't want to lose ahead of his WWE retirement.

The rumours began when Ibou of Self Made reported that "Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman essentially have communicated to WWE and WWE creative that Brock should not job until his retirement." However, once the story was aggregated on social media, the report quickly turned into an assumption that Brock Lesnar was refusing to lose ahead of his final match.

Ibou later clarified that Paul Heyman had communicated that Brock Lesnar should be kept strong until his retirement match, but it is ultimately WWE Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque who has the final say on creative and there was optimism Oba Femi would "go over" should he face Lesnar.

Brock Lesnar vs. Oba Femi was made official for WrestleMania 42 on the March 16 episode of Monday Night Raw, with the former NXT Champion standing tall following a pop-up powerbomb to Lesnar.

In an update on the rumours, though, BodySlam has reported that Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman have never suggested to WWE creative that Lesnar does not want to lose or make his opponents look strong ahead of ending his pro wrestling career.

There has been no official announcement about Brock Lesnar's retirement, but John Cena indicated in 2025 that he believes Lesnar will go "into the sunset" in Minnesota, suggesting that Brock will retire at SummerSlam 2026 in Minneapolis. Reports later noted there had been talk within WWE of Lesnar retiring in 2026, potentially at SummerSlam.
