It was announced by Excalibur on Wednesday night's edition of AEW Dynamite that Samoa Joe was out of action due to suffering a "non-contact injury during training earlier this week." An exact timeframe on when Samoa Joe will return to the ring was not revealed, only that he "remains a huge threat" for the AEW World Championship.
Some fans questioned if Samoa Joe's injury was legitimate as he has often taken lengthy spells away from All Elite Wrestling due to the production of Twisted Metal, the TV series in which he portrays Sweet Tooth. That isn't the case this time around, however, and Samoa Joe is instead dealing with a legitimate injury, PWInsider has reported.
With Samoa Joe on the shelf for the time being, the wrestlers that remain in the hunt for MJF's AEW World Title are Kenny Omega, Hangman Page, and Andrade El Idolo.
Samoa Joe has been presented as a top star since signing with All Elite Wrestling in 2022. He is a former two-time AEW World Champion, with his most recent reign coming to an end at Worlds End 2025. Joe is also a two-time TNT Champion and one-time AEW World Trios Champion with Katsuyori Shibata and Powerhouse Hobbs.
