Update On When Chris Jericho Will Face Mistico In CMLL

Update on Chris Jericho vs. Mistico in CMLL

While it was teased on commentary that Mistico vs. Chris Jericho would be taking place at CMLL's pay-per-view on Friday, July 5, the match will be held at a later date instead. CMLL have announced their July 5 card and Jericho will not be in action, nor will Mistico.

There is no date on when Mistico vs. Chris Jericho will be happening beyond that it will be at one of CMLL's Arena Mexico events. The match was set up on June 28 after a masked man laid out Mistico, with the man removing their mask to reveal themselves as Chris Jericho. The two competitors then had a promo exchange, during which Jericho reminded fans of his time as Corazon de Leon, while Mistico said CMLL was his house now.

Jericho previously wrestled in CMLL as Corazon de Leon from 1993 until 1995, during which he won a hair match and had one run as the Historic Middleweight Champion. LuchaBlog noted that CMLL have long wanted to bring Chris Jericho back to the promotion with the former AEW World Champion said to be a "beloved megastar to CMLL Mexican fanbase and especially to that office."

Chris Jericho vs. Mistico is just the latest match between AEW and CMLL talents, with the two promotions having formed a working relationship in late 2023. A CMLL talent in Atlantis Jr. even holds gold in a Tony Khan-owned promotion, having defeated Kyle Fletcher for the ROH World Television Championship.
