Update On Why Jon Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli Aren't In The AEW World Tag Team Title Tournament

Reportedly no deep reason behind Jon Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli missing the AEW World Tag Team Title tournament

All Elite Wrestling baffled fans in recent weeks when the brackets were revealed for the AEW World Tag Team Title tournament due to the absence of Blackpool Combat Club's Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli and the addition of FTR. This decision was made despite BCC defeating Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler at the Revolution pay-per-view.

Why exactly Moxley and Castagnoli aren't in the tournament has gone unexplained on AEW TV. Dave Meltzer has reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that there is no grand reason behind why All Elite Wrestling didn't add Blackpool Combat Club to the tournament.

After Bryan Alvarez wondered if AEW didn't want Moxley to lose in the tournament ahead of his match with Tetsuya Naito at NJPW Windy City Riot, Meltzer stated: "I've actually asked about that and one thing has nothing to do with the other... I specifically asked why they weren't in and there was like no reason. And again even if they were in the tournament or whatever like that you could still beat Claudio. They didn't put them in for whatever reason they didn't put them in."

The AEW World Tag Team Title tournament is scheduled to end at the Dynasty pay-per-view on April 21. The quarter-finals of the tournament are as follows:

  • The Young Bucks vs. Private Party
  • FTR vs. The Infantry
  • Mike Bennett & Matt Taven vs. Best Friends
  • Ricky Starks & Big Bill vs. Top Flight
