For all that fans have championed their favourites in WWE throughout the years, we all knew that the buck stopped with Vince McMahon, with McMahon’s whims dictating the direction of the company - for better or for worse.

Over the years, fans cries fell on deaf ears such as the positive reaction to Sid Justice eliminating Hulk Hogan from the 1992 Royal Rumble, the demand from some corners for a John Cena heel turn, and the choice of Baron Corbin as Kurt Angle’s final opponent in his retirement match at WrestleMania 35.

Many believed that Corbin was not worthy of the honour of retiring Angle, with fellow legends Ric Flair and Shawn Michaels going out against HBK and The Undertaker respectively. McMahon seemingly didn’t care about the fan backlash aimed at the pairing, with former WWE writer Dave Schilling sharing the following on Twitter:

“Oh no it’s Kurt Angle Vs Baron Corbin. When it was mentioned in a production meeting that the fans hated the idea of this match, Vince laughed so hard and said “f*** em”,” revealed Schilling during a WrestleMania 35 watch-along session.

Angle lost to Corbin in around six minutes at Mania, in a match regarded as one of the worst of the night. The Olympic Gold Medallist himself has revealed he asked to face John Cena in a retirement match at WrestleMania 35 but McMahon wanted to have Angle complete his storyline with Corbin and retire against Cena at WrestleMania 36.
