Vince McMahon Told To Resign From WWE By Key TKO Executives
Vince McMahon was told to resign from WWE
Feb 9, 2024
Vince McMahon did not tender his resignation as TKO Executive Chairman of his own accord.
McMahon had been TKO Executive Chairman since the WWE-UFC merger under TKO in September 2023, having been WWE Executive Chairman since he restructured the board and forced his way back into the organisation in January 2023. McMahon had celebrated the WWE-Netflix deal and Dwayne Johnson joining the TKO Board of Directors in January but he found himself resigning from the company after former WWE employee Janel Grant filed a lawsuit accusing McMahon of sex trafficking, sexual assault, and physical and emotional abuse. John Laurinaitis and WWE were also named as defendants.
McMahon resigned one day after the lawsuit was filed as Slim Jim, WWE's top sponsor, and other companies began to withdraw their support from WWE.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, McMahon's resignation came after TKO CEO Ari Emanuel and TKO President and COO Mark Shapiro called Vince McMahon and told him it would be in the best interest of the company for him to resign. McMahon ultimately agreed and submitted his resignation.
TKO appointed McMahon as Executive Chairman despite him being under investigation by the United States Government. That investigation remains ongoing.
