Cody Rhodes had to fight to close out the January 27 taping of Monday Night Raw from State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
After Raw went off the air, Rhodes was left in the ring but he was suddenly laid out by Carmelo Hayes. Hayes then gloated about attacking Cody before the former NXT Champion declared himself for the Men's Royal Rumble Match.
Hayes then collected a table from under the ring but this only led to a comeback from Cody, who connected with a Cross Rhodes and proceeded to powerbomb Melo through the table.
After getting rid of Hayes, Cody closed out the show as expected in his hometown of Atlanta.
If Hayes will actually be in the Royal Rumble has yet to be confirmed but Melo did post his post-show attack on social media, which suggests he will be one of the 30 men competing for a world title shot at WrestleMania 41.
