The Casino Gauntlet match was one of the highlights of AEW’s return to Wembley Stadium for All In 2024, with the multi-man match eventually won by Christian Cage.

Cage’s win was certainly out of left field, with Cage having wrestled earlier in the night during the four-team AEW World Trios Championship London Ladder Match, and with the victory Cage has earned a shot at the AEW World Championship whenever he pleases.

On a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed why Cage won the match, saying:

“The (Casino Gauntlet match) which Will Ospreay won, Christian was supposed to win that one.”

Ospreay has previously won two gauntlet matches in AEW, winning on April 24 to earn an AEW International Championship shot at Double or Nothing, then later winning one on May 29 to earn an AEW World Championship shot at Swerve Strickland at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door III. It is unclear as to which gauntlet match Cage was originally supposed to win.

Cage beat out the likes of Hangman Page, Kazuchika Okada, a debuting Ricochet, and a returning Nigel McGuinness to win the match inside Wembley Stadium.
