Why Vince McMahon Used 'Local Medical Facility' Instead Of 'Hospital' For WWE TV
Why there were no 'hospital' mentions on WWE TV

During his multi-decade stint as the head of WWE creative, Vince McMahon loomed large over the company's TV product and certain terms were only used on WWE TV because of directives from McMahon.
This included WWE largely ignoring 'pro wrestling' to McMahon infamously disliking the word 'belt', but another McMahonism that was present on WWE TV was announcers would explain talents had been transported to a 'local medical facility' as opposed to a hospital following an injury angle.
Speaking on Something To Wrestle, former WWE Champion JBL revealed why 'local medical facility' was such a common term on WWE programming.
"I never understood that. Vince wanted to keep things on a more cerebral level. I think that was the reason for the medical centre. Plus, he didn't want people to call the hospital. He didn't want people to say 'He's at the Baltimore Hospital,' because [they] would call the hospital. If you say, 'He’s at a local medical centre', you have no idea where he went. You have the plausible deniability," JBL stated.
Vince McMahon stopped being involved in WWE creative in 2023 and he is no longer a part of the company beyond the shares he holds in TKO Group Holdings. McMahon was forced to resign as TKO Executive Chairman in January 2024 after Janel Grant filed a lawsuit against him, WWE, and John Laurinaitis accusing the former WWE CEO of sex trafficking, sexual assault, and physical and emotional abuse.
The lawsuit remains ongoing, although Grant is expected to amend her filing later this month.
