Upon signing with All Elite Wrestling earlier this year, William Regal did not revert back to his old Steven Regal in-ring name, instead sticking with the moniker he had used throughout his WWE run.

Speaking during a K&S WrestleFest signing, Regal revealed that he owns the name 'William Regal' but Vince McMahon gave his blessing for the former NXT General Manager to continue using the name nonetheless.

"No [WWE does not own my ring name]. I own William Regal. I own William Regal but if Mr. McMahon asked me not to use it, I wouldn't use it...I'd be just Steven Regal. He gave me his blessing. No problems with me and Mr. McMahon at all," Regal said.

The Gentleman Villain could soon be William Regal in WWE again. The former leader of Blackpool Combat Club was seemingly written off AEW TV on last night's show, being taken away from the arena in an ambulance following a beatdown from MJF. Dave Meltzer has since hinted that Regal is on his way out of AEW.

Recent reports noted that WWE had discussed bringing Regal back to the company. The former Intercontinental Champion spent 22 years in the organisation from 2000 until his release in January 2022 first as an in-ring talent and then as the WWE Director of Talent Development and Head of Global Recruiting.
