William Regal Reveals Why WWE Didn't Sign MJF For NXT

William Regal has spoken about why NXT opted not to sign MJF

Prior to making his name as a member of the AEW roster, MJF tried his luck with WWE.

He auditioned for the 2015 season of the reality show Tough Enough and, though he wasn't chosen for the show itself, his audition tape remains available to view via WWE's YouTube channel.

On a recent edition of his Gentleman Villain podcast, William Regal elaborated on why WWE opted not to sign MJF for NXT years ago.

"He was young. Far too young to get hired [by WWE]. And there was only so many places in NXT. If you've got a full roster and somebody young [comes along] you go 'right now what you need to do is go out and do your thing'. Make people notice you, which he did".

On the subject of MJF, Regal also spoke about the comparisons between the AEW star and the late Roddy Piper, to whom he is often compared.

According to Regal, the WWE Hall of Famer would have seen through MJF's act.

"Roddy Piper would have seen straight through him. He would have gone 'this is a lad who's not grown up the same as us'. He's not got the same mentality. You might think you're a bad guy, you might want to act like a bad guy. But there's a difference, there's a big difference and very few people know that. A lot of people who got through this job by just acting like a bad guy".
