John Cena’s “My Time Is Now” entrance theme is one of the most iconic in all of professional wrestling history, but the song may have gotten WWE in some hot water, with both the promotion and Cena being sued over the use of the music.

As reported by Billboard.com, the daughter of Pete Schofield, whose recording of “The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia” from 1974 was the original source of the horns used at the start of Cena’s track when it was made in 2005. The claim from his daughter notes that WWE and Cena failed to properly clear the sample and breached a $50,000 settlement.

Kim Schofield said the following in her lawsuit:

“Every effort at informal resolution has been met with threats, misrepresentations, and intimidation tactics, leaving plaintiff with no recourse but to seek relief from this court.”

Her claims reveal that the family were unaware of the use of the horns until 2015 before signing a 2017 settlement with WWE to cover the use of the sample. The emergence of this lawsuit now stems from the fact that she claims the family have now realized that they own the publishing rights to the song too - separate from the original recording.

Cena's name hasn't been shy of controversy over the last week after comments he made regarding Vince McMahon.
