WWE are reviving a former staple of Survivor Series for the 2026 edition of the pay-per-view from Houston, Texas, on November 28.
Rey Mysterio has announced on What's Your Story? with Stephanie McMahon that Survivor Series 2026 will feature a Team USA vs. Team Mexico Traditional Five-on-Five Survivor Series Elimination Tag Team Match.
"It is a very important announcement. The overall vision of AAA and where it was to where it's at now, like Lucha Libre has made a big impact in wrestling in general worldwide. I had a couple of words with Adam Pearce and with Nick Aldis and we are going to put together something very special. A classic Five vs. Five Survivor Series Match at this Survivor Series where it will be Team USA vs. Team Mexico," Mysterio stated.
Survivor Series had been built around Five-on-Five Elimination Tag Team matches since the pay-per-view's inception in 1988 but the matches were heavily criticised after the reintroduction of the brand split in 2016 which saw WWE consistently book brand vs. brand contests as opposed to there being a major storyline impetus for the matches. During Vince McMahon's brief 2022 retirement, Triple H scrapped the traditional tag team matches and replaced them with WarGames. The Match Beyond has been an annual staple of Survivor Series ever since.
The most recent Five-on-Five Tag Team Elimination Match took place on the SmackDown before Survivor Series 2025 and saw The MFTs (Solo Sikoa, JC Mateo, Tama Tonga, Talla Tonga, and Tonga Loa) defeat Team Sami (Sam Zayn, Rey Fenix, Shinsuke Nakamura, Alex Shelley, and Chris Sabin).
