Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide is no longer an independent promotion, having been purchased by WWE.

It was announced during the WrestleMania 41 pre-show that WWE have acquired AAA. No details of how much WWE have paid for the company were revealed.

AAA's Marisela Pena, Dorian Roldan, and El Hijo del Vikingo were on the pre-show along with a whole host of WWE's Mexican talent and luchadors, including Rey Mysterio, Dragon Lee, Rey Fenix, Penta, Andrade, Angel Garza, Humberto Carrillo, and Cruz Del Toro. WWE NXT Women's Champion Stephanie Vaquer - who previously wrestled for CMLL - was also on the pre-show.

In addition to the acquisition, it was announced that WWE NXT and AAA would present NXT x AAA Worlds Collide on June 7 from the KIA Forum in Los Angeles, California.

Beyond Vikingo, top AAA stars currently include Psycho Clown, Laredo Kid, and reigning AAA Mega Champion Alberto El Patron (AKA Alberto Del Rio).

AAA was formed in 1992 when then-CMLL booker Antonio Pena quit the promotion and took much of the company's young talent with him, including Konnan.
