WWE Clash At The Castle Results

19 years on from their last pay-per-view, WWE returned to the United Kingdom on Saturday, September 3, and held Clash At The Castle in front of 62,000 fans at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.

The story heading into the show revolved around if Drew McIntyre could have his own British Bulldog moment and win the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship from Roman Reigns in the UK. Did The Scottish Warrior manage to dethrone Reigns, though? Find out below!

The Street Profits & Madcap Moss def. Alpha Academy & Austin Theory - Pre-Show

In the first WWE pre-show match for some time, Madcap Moss and The Street Profits faced off against the newly renamed Austin Theory and Alpha Academy.

The match was a standard back-and-forth affair but featured a big moment after Montez Ford hit a Blockbuster to the outside on Chad Gable, who was seated upon Angelo Dawkins' shoulders. Shortly after, Ford won the match with a huge Frog Splash to Gable. 

Damage Control (Bayley, IYO SKY, & Dakota Kai) def. Bianca Belair, Asuka, & Alexa Bliss

Following their returns at SummerSlam, the new faction of Damage Control looked to impose themselves on the Raw women's division in the opening contest of Clash At The Castle proper, clashing with Raw Women's Champion Bianca Belair, Alexa Bliss, and Asuka. 

It took mere moments for the fans inside the Principality Stadium to break into 'Hey Bayley (if you'll be my girl)' chants and Bayley tried to turn the crowd against her to no avail. The action then started out slowly and the heels eventually took control, with Damage Control working over Asuka and then Alexa Bliss. Bianca Belair managed a short flurry but she was also cut down by Bayley and co. 

The Raw Women's Champion eventually managed to fight back with a Tower of Doom and later a Powerbomb to Dakota Kai before she went for a KOD, only for SKY to save her stablemate. 

Kai then took advantage with a Kick in the corner before Bayley hit a Rose Plant and SKY connected with her Moonsault. This left Belair down and out and Bayley pinned the Raw Women's Champion for the win, which turned out to be the first time The EST had been pinned in 2022. 

Ahead of the next match, Tyson Fury and Bret Hart were shown at ringside. 

Gunther (c) def. Sheamus – Intercontinental Championship 

In the first major reveal of the night, Imperium was reformed as Giovanni Vinci reunited with Ludwig Kaiser and Gunther ahead of Der Ring General's Intercontinental Title defence against Sheamus. 

In the first Intercontinental Title defence on pay-per-view since WrestleMania 37, Gunther and Sheamus stood opposite each other as the bell rang, with both competitors not taking their eyes off each other as Ridge Holland and Butch brawled with Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci. 

Both Sheamus and Gunther then proceeded to batter each other and The Celtic Warrior's chest was soon bleeding due to the Intercontinental Champion's brutal chops. 

Sheamus struggled to get back to his feet after more chops but he managed to fight back with 10 Beats of the Bodhran. He then connected with White Noise for a close near fall before he went for a Brogue Kick. Gunther avoided it, though, capitalising with a Powerbomb. That looked to be it but Sheamus managed to get his shoulder up! 

Sheamus immediately clutched his lower back after the Powerbomb but he managed to hit Gunther with a Celtic Cross for another near fall. A second Brogue Kick attempt followed but the challenger's back gave out, allowing Gunther to hit a second Powerbomb before he connected with a massive Lariat for the 1-2-3.

Liv Morgan (c) def. Shayna Baszler – SmackDown Women's Championship

In the next match at Clash At The Castle, Liv Morgan defended her SmackDown Women's Title against former NXT Women's Champion Shayna Baszler.

The match centred around Morgan's storyline-injured arm which was repeatedly targeted by Baszler, who worked over the limb for several minutes.

Morgan managed to briefly fight back with a Cross Armbreaker that she learned while training for the match, injuring Baszler's own arm in the process. Baszler managed to escape and she connected with a brutal knee for a near fall. Liv Morgan then fired back with a Sunset Flip Powerbomb before Baszler fought back with a Kirifuda Clutch. 

Baszler couldn't keep the hold locked in, though, due to the previous Cross Armbreaker and Morgan managed to make it to the bottom rope. The SmackDown Women's Champion then followed up with a Codebreaker and Oblivion to pick up the win and retain her title. 

Edge & Rey Mysterio def. Judgment Day

The feud of The Mysterios and Edge vs. Judgment Day continued next as The Rated-R Superstar looked to exact revenge on his former stablemates. The wildcard looked set to be Dominik, though, as Rey chose to team with Edge instead of his own son. 

Edge, wearing a lucha libre mask during his entrance, was worked over by Judgment Day in the early going but he soon fired back following an assist from Rey Mysterio. Edge and Rey Mysterio then combined to hit a Powerbomb Moonsault on Priest and Balor on the outside. 

The babyfaces' advantage didn't last long, though, and a long spell of Judgment Day working over Rey Mysterio enveloped the match, during which Damian Priest spit his gum at Edge and Balor mocked Eddie Guerrero. The action then spilled to the outside and Priest was left with very sore nether regions after Rey took him out on the barricade.

Mysterio made the hot tag to Edge next and the WWE Hall of Famer ran wild, connecting with an Edgecution before he set up for a Spear to Balor. He became distracted by Priest but this only left Balor vulnerable for a 619 from Edge! Mysterio followed up with a Frog Splash to Balor but Priest broke up the pinfall. Edge then fired back with a Spear to the outside through the ropes but Judgment Day soon gained the upper hand, with Balor hitting a Slingblade before he went for a Coup De Grace to The Rated-R Superstar.

Dominik Mysterio distracted the official, however, as Rey grabbed Balor's foot. Ripley then pulled Dominik out of the ring but she was taken out by a Suicide Dive from Rey! Balor tried to gain control again in the ring, only for Dominik to grab his foot this time. 

With The Prince distracted, Rey kicked him from behind and hit a 619 before Edge decked Balor with a Spear for the win! 

The action didn't end there, however, as Dominik Mysterio entered the squared circle and shockingly kicked Edge square in the nether regions. Rey tried to calm his son down but Dominik decked his own father with a Lariat, completing a turn that had long been discussed. Dominik then left the arena to a chorus of boos while Judgment Day laughed at their opponents.

Seth Rollins def. Matt Riddle 

In the semi-main event, Matt Riddle and Seth Rollins finally clashed in the first match of a feud that has featured a storyline injury, multiple brawls, and Riddle's divorce being mentioned on WWE TV. 

An angry Riddle looked to maul an Elton John-inspired Rollins in the opening moments but he was immediately pulled away by the referee which allowed the former Universal Champion to gain the upper hand and he followed up later with a Barricade Bomb. 

Rollins then worked over Riddle and he looked to hit his Superplex-Falcon Arrow combination, only for Riddle to counter into a Fisherman's Buster. The Original Bro then followed up with a Springboard Floating Bro to the outside before he blocked a Pedigree attempt and hit the Bro To Sleep for a near fall! 

Both competitors then countered each other's finishers until Riddle locked in a Triangle Choke. Rollins looked set to pass out but he managed to escape and hit a Neutralizer for a near fall. More back-and-forth action then followed and Rollins connected with a Pedigree, only for Riddle to get his shoulder up at the last moment. 

Rollins taunted Riddle next, prompting a flurry of angry strikes from The Original Bro which Seth used to his advantage, connecting with a Randy Orton-esque DDT. Rollins then went for an RKO but Riddle locked in a Sleeper before he connected with more vicious strikes. Riddle tried to hit Rollins with a steel chair next while he was draped across the announce table but Rollins avoided it and caught Riddle with a Stomp as he climbed back into the ring in pursuit. 

A calculated Rollins then decked his rival with a second Stomp, this time from the middle rope before he made the cover for the win. 

Roman Reigns (c) def. Drew McIntyre – Undisputed WWE Universal Championship

After all of that, it was time for the main event of Clash At The Castle as the UK's own Drew McIntyre challenged Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, looking to end The Big Dog's 734-day spell as a world champion. 

A video montage of Drew McIntyre's career played to Broken Dreams before the match got underway and The Scottish Warrior made his entrance to his usual theme as he struggled to hide his beaming smile. Roman Reigns music then filled the arena and a WWE Undisputed Universal Champion without The Bloodline made his way to the ring to a chorus of boos. 

Once the in-ring action got underway, it started out slow and Drew backed Roman into a corner after he blocked a shoulder tackle which led to chants of 'Who are ya?' from the thousands in attendance. McIntyre took control as the fans rallied around him but Drew's momentum was cut down after he spotted Karrion Kross and Scarlett sat at ringside as being a babyface, the challenger couldn't help but shout at him. This allowed Reigns to fight back and he proceeded to batter McIntyre, working over the challenger's ribs, for several minutes. 

During his time on top, Reigns grabbed the microphone and demanded Cardiff acknowledge him to a chorus of boos. Drew then decked him with a massive Glasgow Kiss before McIntyre continued the attack with a Belly To Belly Suplex and a Neckbreaker. 

A kip-up from the challenger followed and he later went for a Claymore, only for Roman to roll out of the ring. Reigns then hit a Uranage for a near fall before McIntyre connected with a Futureshock DDT. McIntyre then went for a Claymore but Reigns countered with a Superman Punch. A Spear followed and that looked to be it and as the UK held its breath, Drew managed to fire his shoulder up from the mat. 

Reigns looked to lock in the Guillotine Choke next but Drew wouldn't fall to his feet and he fired back, decking the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion with a Spear through the barricade. McIntyre went for the Claymore again but another Spear from Reigns was the end result! That definitely looked to be it but the Scottish Warrior got his shoulder up again! 

An enraged Roman Reigns looked to take his frustration out on referee Charles Robinson and Drew took advantage, connecting with a Claymore. He sent Reigns tumbling into the official, though, which brought out Austin Theory and a new referee as he tried to cash in. Theory was suddenly floored, however, as he ate a brutal right hand from Tyson Fury!

Back in the ring, Reigns looked to use a steel chair but McIntyre connected with a second Claymore. Everyone was on their feet believing it was the finish but it was Reigns' turn to kick out. When the two competitors got to their feet, they exchanged counters and Drew hit a Spear and another Claymore. Reigns wasn't going to kick out but the referee was suddenly pulled from the ring before the count of three by a hooded figure, who revealed themselves to be Solo Sikoa! 

With his dream having been stolen from him, Drew took out his anger on Sikoa but this allowed Reigns to regroup and he connected with a Spear before he covered Drew for the 1-2-3 as the air left the Principality Stadium.

After the match, Tyson Fury entered the ring, shook Roman Reigns' hand before he started singing 'American Pie' with Drew McIntyre. The Scottish Warrior then promised to win the Undisputed WWE Universal Title and he sang 'Don't Look Back In Anger.'

WWE had the opportunity to create a massive moment but instead we had Tyson Fury and Drew McIntyre singing to end the first UK pay-per-view in 19 years.
