WWE Fastlane 2023 Results

WWE headed to Indianapolis, Indiana for Fastlane 2023 on Saturday, October 7. 

Multiple championships were on the line and John Cena continued his recent run in WWE by teaming with LA Knight to take on The Bloodline's Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa. A return was also expected to take place at Fastlane.

Jey Uso & Cody Rhodes def. Finn Balor & Damian Priest (c)  - Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships 

Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso were an effective team in the opening minutes, making quick tags until Judgment Day took control and worked over Uso for a number of minutes. He eventually managed to make the hot tag to Cody, who ran wild on fellow Bullet Club alumni Finn Balor with a Disaster Kick for a near fall. 

Later, Cody connected with a Superplex after a flurry of blocked finishers. Jey Uso then channelled his inner Rock, hitting Damian Priest with a strike after staring at his own palm. A Crossbody picked up a near fall for the babyfaces, as this writer became increasingly distracted by the race car sounds when WWE showed replays. 

Priest later went for the Razor's Edge but Uso avoided it and connected with a Tope Suicida to both members of Judgment Day. Main Event followed up with an Uso Splash but Balor made the save at the last possible moment. Cody Cutter to Balor followed and Jey went for a Spear to Priest but he ran into a big boot. Uso hit it only a few moments later, though, and looked to follow up with another Uso Splash but Dominik Mysterio and Rhea Ripley made their way to the ring to distract Jey. 

This paid dividends as Priest hit a Frankensteiner and Balor followed up with a Coup De Grace. That looked to be it but Cody broke up the pin just before the three count. Priest was nursing a knee injury following the Frankensteiner but Jey Uso continued a flurry of offence, taking out JD McDonagh on the apron. When the referee wasn't looking, though, Rhea Ripley decked Jey with the Money in the Bank briefcase. Finn then rolled up Uso but Jey managed to kick out!

Priest later went to put Cody Rhodes through the announce table but JD McDonagh accidentally caught him with a briefcase shot. Cody then connected with a Cross Rhodes on the table to take out Priest. Next, Uso and Rhodes targeted Balor, with the babyfaces connecting with a 1D-Cody Cutter combination before Rhodes hit Finn with the Cross Rhodes for the victory. 

Latino World Order (Rey Mysterio, Santos Escobar, & Carlito) def. Bobby Lashley & The Street Profits 

In the next match, The Street Profits and Bobby Lashley looked to cement their new alliance with a win over the Latino World Order, who started the match with a numbers disadvantage with just Rey Mysterio and Santos Escobar. The match was sponsored by Pizza Hut so there were plenty of pizza references during the contest. 

The Street Profits and Bobby Lashley dominated much of the action following the bell as they worked over both Rey Mysterio and Santos Escobar. That dominance continued until Zelina Vega interfered and took out Montez Ford which allowed those cheating babyfaces to get rolling as Rey Mysterio followed up with a Tornado DDT to Angelo Dawkins. Rey Mysterio had no one to tag in, though, as Santos Escobar was down and out which allowed the heel trio to promptly regain control. 

Then Carlito made his return to WWE! Caribbean Cool promptly took out The Street Profits before Santos Escobar followed up with a Suicide Dive to Bobby Lashley. With Montez Ford back in the ring, Carlito hit a Backstabber to pick up the win for the LWO. 

IYO SKY (c) def. Asuka & Charlotte Flair - Triple Threat for the WWE Women's Championship

Straight out of the gate, Asuka misted Charlotte Flair and almost picked up the win, only for IYO SKY to break up the pin. This did take Charlotte Flair out of the match in the opening minutes until she returned, having received assistance to wipe the mist out of her eyes. Asuka and IYO SKY worked together to work over Flair and the match became a one-on-one affair again. 

During this time, Asuka connected with an Avalanche German Suplex and a Sliding Kick for a near fall on SKY. Charlotte Flair came back in the ring and took out both of her opponents with a Crossbody as boos filled the Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Charlotte is just so good and strong, according to Michael Cole, that she managed to Suplex both Asuka and SKY at the same time. Flair then continued to work over both of her opponents at the same time, doing a Handstand into a Double Clothesline for a near fall on Asuka. 

Later, IYO SKY took out Charlotte Flair with a Suicide Dive on the outside. SKY then looked to take out Asuka with an Asai Moonsault but missed it. Charlotte decided to hit her own Moonsault from the top rope to the floor as he once again urged the crowd to get behind her to no avail. Charlotte went for the Figure Eight soon after on Asuka but IYO SKY blocked the move with a Meteora. This led to a double submission on Charlotte before Asuka hit a Codebreaker on IYO. 

Charlotte took advantage with a Spear to Asuka and that looked to be it but Asuka got her shoulder up at two. Bayley then looked to get IYO SKY back into the ring, despite SKY telling her to stay in the back. This allowed Charlotte to take out SKY before Asuka connected with a Codebreaker to Flair for a near fall. 

Next, Charlotte managed to lock in the Figure Eight and Asuka was tapping. Bayley distracted the official, though, and IYO took advantage with a Moonsault to Flair for the 1-2-3. 

Pat McAfee Returns

Following the previous contest, former Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee returned to WWE and claimed Indianapolis deserved a WrestleMania, copying John Cena from Money in the Bank. McAfee then sat on commentary for the next match...

John Cena & LA Knight def. Jimmy Uso & Solo Sikoa 

John Cena was initially in control in the early going but Big Match John was soon taken out by Solo Sikoa and The Bloodline worked over the 16-time world champion. After several minutes, Cena managed to hit an Attitude Adjustment to Jimmy Uso out of nowhere and he was about to make the hot tag but Solo Sikoa took out LA Knight before Cena could reach his partner. 

The Bloodline beatdown to Cena only continued until the man who plays Peacemaker managed to get his knees up to block a Banzai Drop from Solo Sikoa. This finally led to the hot tag to LA Knight for a huge pop as the former Eli Drake ran wild on Jimmy Uso. A Superkick then flattened Knight but LA managed to get his shoulder up. 

Jimmy next went for an Uso Splash but Knight rolled out of the way and followed up with a Scoop Slam before he hit his LA Knight Elbow. Cena re-entered the action, hitting a Crossbody to Sikoa but this only left him open to an Uso Splash from Jimmy. 

Once the action restarted, Cena went for an AA to Sikoa but he only ate a Superkick to the face from Jimmy Uso. LA Knight then took out Jimmy with a Superplex after he leapt to the top rope. Five Knuckle Shuffle from Cena followed before the BFT for the win. 

After the match, Paul Heyman told whoever he was on the phone to that "we have a problem here." 

A cash-in was then ruled out as Damian Priest said he wasn't leaving Fastlane empty-handed. Priest was dealing with an injured knee, though, and Rhea Ripley and the rest of Judgment Day urged Priest to recover. Priest reluctantly agreed and handed Ripley his Money in the Bank briefcase. 

Seth Rollins (c) def. Shinsuke Nakamura - Last Man Standing Match for the World Heavyweight Championship

Main event time as Shinsuke Nakamura challenged Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Title in a Last Man Standing Match. 

Seth Rollins had some early control as he grabbed tables and steel chairs from under the ring. This only allowed Shinsuke Nakamura to retrieve some nunchucks that he used to batter Rollins, including while Rollins was inside a trash can. Rollins managed to fight back soon after with a Slingblade and kendo stick shots before he hit Nakamura with a trash can. 

Rollins continued on offence, hitting a Running Knee and a Frog Splash. Nakamura managed to get up at four and he fired back with a Russian Leg Sweep while the kendo stick was around Seth Rollins' neck. Rollins soon gained the upper hand again and looked to put Nakamura through the announce table but Nakamura moved out of the way before Rollins dived from the ladder, like a fool. 

The action entered the crowd next, with Nakamura hitting Rollins with a Low Blow before he kicked Rollins out of the stands to the floor, sending Rollins' back crashing onto a mat. That looked to be it but Rollins managed to get up at nine. Nakamura followed up with chair shots to Rollins' back before a Back Body Drop on the bare concrete. Rollins managed to get back up at nine once again. 

Nakamura set up for the Kinshasa but Rollins countered with a Superkick and Pedigree. It was then Nakamura's turn to get to his feet at nine. Rollins looked to follow up but Nakamura fired back with strikes before he put Rollins through a table with Double Knees from the top rope to the outside. Once again, Rollins got back to his feet at nine. Nakamura unloaded with more chair shots to the back but he decided not to go full Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania 17, giving Rollins time to get back to his feet at nine. 

Rollins fired back by driving Nakamura into the ring post before he dragged Shinsuke back across the announce table. Nakamura instead decided to join Seth on the ladder and he sprayed red mist in Nakamura's face. One push later and Rollins was sent crashing through the announce table. Much to the dismay of Michael Cole, though, Rollins got back to his feet at 9.8. 

A Sidewalk Slam across a chair followed before a Kinshasa through the table. Rollins managed to survive once again, rolling to the outside so his feet reached the floor at nine.  The action went back into the crowd and Rollins hit Nakamura with a Pedigree on a platform before a Stomp. Next, Rollins sent himself and Nakamura crashing through a pile of tables with a Falcon Arrow. 

We had a Rocky II finish as Nakamura collapsed at the count of nine while Rollins managed to just about stay up as the referee counted 10 on the challenger.
