In the year of our Lord 2026, WWE reportedly held talks with Vince Russo over a return to the creative team.
Conrad Thompson noted in his Conrad's Corner column that WWE and Vince Russo discussed a return to WWE creative this past summer. Those talks, however, reportedly "died on the vine."
Fightful Select has since reported that sources at WWE HQ in Stamford, Connecticut, heard WWE President Nick Khan had conversations with Vince Russo but it was unknown how serious those talks became. Russo was either at WWE HQ at one point or he was under consideration for a visit.
Russo's talks didn't reach the ears of the rest of WWE's staff, though. None of the agents, producers, writers or other road staff for the company heard about the talks and some influential names laughed it off. Even those who are close to Nick Khan only heard about the conversations following Conrad Thompson's article.
Vince Russo is one of the most controversial booking figures in pro wrestling history. He initially joined the then-World Wrestling Federation in 1992 and swiftly became the editor of WWF Magazine and later the WWF Raw Magazine when it launched in 1996. Russo, in his editor role, sat in on WWF creative meetings and he was promoted to WWF head writer in 1997, a role he would hold until October 1999, when he signed with World Championship Wrestling.
Russo would have an infamous stint as head booker of WCW, but he would become a free agent in May 2001 after AOL Time Warner bought out his WCW contract, which came two months after WWF acquired WCW.
Russo had a brief return to WWE in June 2002 as a creative consultant but he was gone after less than two weeks, instead joining TNA as a full-time member of the new promotion's creative team.
Russo left TNA in late 2004 but he returned in 2006 and remained a part of the company until 2012. Russo then secretly returned to TNA as a consultant in October 2013, with one of the conditions of his employment being that it remained confidential, but he was gone in July 2014 after accidentally emailing PWInsider about TNA announcers.
Since then, Vince Russo has primarily been a pro wrestling analyst, although he returned to pro wrestling booking in October 2025 as an investor and booker in Juggalo Championship Wrestling. He remained with JCW until the two sides mutually agreed to part ways in September of this year.
