WWE Hopeful CM Punk Will Be Cleared In Time For Drew McIntyre Match At SummerSlam

The match is planned but it's not a certainty as things stand.

The feud between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre continued at Money in the Bank, where Punk once again cost McIntyre the WWE World Heavyweight Championship by thwarting his cash-in attempt during the match between Damian Priest and Seth Rollins.

That was the third time the Straight-Edge Superstar has meddled in the Scottish Warrior's business in this way and a grudge match showdown between the two is inevitable.

SummerSlam, WWE's next pay-per-view, would seem the logical place for this to happen. According to a new report, however, it is not a certainty.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said:

"Right now, it is not 100 percent as far as Punk and Drew at SummerSlam, but I was told it is probable. Punk was kind of asked about it and he kind of beat around the bush and he kind of said, I mean, it's probably happening but he kind of did say it's up to other people, he has to get cleared and everything by the doctors. I was pretty much told they're pretty confident in it but you can't go and say 100 percent because it ain't 100 percent. It's been the hope, but it's now more than a hope, now it's a plan, Drew McIntyre and Punk for SummerSlam"

SummerSlam will take place on August 4, giving Punk just under a month to get cleared.

As well as McIntyre, Punk is also hoping to wrestle John Cena at least one more time before the 16-time world champion retires in 2025.
