WWE Introduces Women's Intercontinental Championship
Women’s Intercontinental Championship introduced by WWE
Nov 26, 2024
After the unveiling of the Women’s United States Championship several weeks back, most thought it was only a matter of time until WWE introduced a Women’s Intercontinental Championship. As seen on the November 25 edition of Raw, WWE have indeed introduced a secondary women’s title for the red brand.
The unveiling of the championship was made before Raw aired, with GM Adam Pearce revealing the title in-ring in a WWE digital exclusive, with the footage later shown during the Raw broadcast. Pearce made reference to the Intercontinental Championship being the prize of the workhorses of WWE and stated he hopes the women’s version will be the same.
Like the other main roster women’s titles in WWE, the Women’s Intercontinental Championship is the same as the men’s version but with a white strap, evoking memories of the classic men’s IC Championship.
Whilst the first Women’s US Champion will be crowned at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 14 no details have been given as to how, where, or when the first Women’s Intercontinental Champion will be crowned. Some have called for WWE to honour Chyna when the championship is officially sanctioned, with the late ‘Ninth Wonder of the World’ having held the men’s Intercontinental Championship twice in 1999 and 2000.
