Bryan Danielson Provides Update On In-Ring Future Ahead Of Possible Neck Surgery
Bryan Danielson comments on his in-ring future
Nov 26, 2024
Bryan Danielson last wrestled at AEW WrestleDream (on October 12), where he dropped the AEW World Championship to Jon Moxley in the show's main event.
In the run-up to the pay-per-view, The American Dragon made it clear that when he lost the title it would signal the end of his full-time in-ring career.
But he never said 'retirement'.
Addressing his health and in-ring future during a recent appearance on The Nikki & Brie Show, Danielson said:
"I was very cautious to not say 'retirement', except for the match where if I lost, I'd retire (At All In against Swerve Strickland). But after that, it was all, 'the end of my full-time wrestling career'. But honestly, I feel - we don't know what's going to happen with my neck – but it honestly feels like I have a bobblehead". Danielson's wife Brie Garcia noted that her husband needs to have neck surgery.
Brie also said that she wanted to make a celebratory post after Bryan's last match, but Danielson asked her not to since "As wrestlers, we're never fully retired".
Continuing, the 43-year-old added:
"I realised this with my last retirement [in WWE], which was forced. I didn't want to retire but they weren't going to let me wrestle again. But what I found is, people are sad for a bit, they are sad for like this much, but then everyone just moves on and it doesn't matter". Last month it was revealed that AEW had always planned for Moxley to beat Danielson and win the AEW World Title.
