AEW Always Secretly Planned For Jon Moxley To Beat Bryan Danielson For The World Title
AEW were reportedly always planning to crown Jon Moxley as world champion
Oct 26, 2024
At WrestleDream 2024, Jon Moxley defeated Bryan Danielson for the AEW World Championship, ending his full-time career. It was reported that the original plans for Danielson’s title loss would have seen Darby Allin pick up the gold, beating Danielson in their home state of Washington at WrestleDream. Whilst it seemed as though the plans for this had changed, a new report has suggested that Moxley winning was the plan all along.
Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has revealed that the plan for Moxley to defeat Danielson was decided a long time in advance, and that it was kept a secret. It was supposedly planned prior to Jon Moxley winning the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, which took place back in April of this year. It is noted that the only ones in the know were Tony Khan, Danielson, Moxley, and Allin.
When it comes to when Moxley was to defeat Danielson, Meltzer has revealed that the date was chosen by Danielson himself. Danielson won the gold at All In 2024, and had to be talked into winning the title by Tony Khan, as he was hesitant to be crowned as champion.
