NXT recently returned to Toronto, Ontario, Canada for Heatwave, with the black and gold brand’s latest premium live event receiving rave reviews.

The show featured many surprises such as the shock NXT Title win for Ethan Page and show ending tease of Joe Hendry, and a report from Fightful Select suggests that WWE management are ‘over the moon’ with the reception of Heatwave.

The report mentions that WWE sources stated the final card was different to the initial plans hashed out for the show several months ago, although what these initial plans were as yet remains unknown.

Importantly for WWE, they are keen to maintain the buzz NXT has garnered in recent months, with the sports entertainment giant wanting a strong showing for when the black and gold brand starts its lucrative run on The CW in October. Initial plans for the launch of NXT on The CW are believed to see the debut edition presented as a major show akin to early NXT TakeOver shows.

Online reception to Heatwave was indeed strong, with fans giving particular praise to Oba Femi vs. Wes Lee, and Sol Ruca vs. Kelani Jordan. The 2024 edition of NXT Heatwave was the third in company history, with Heatwave formerly a tentpole event for Paul Heyman’s ECW in the 90s.
