WWE have made a habit of counter-programming against All Elite Wrestling in 2025, and there may be more show clashes to come in 2025.
It was recently reported that WWE are planning to run a main roster premium live event/pay-per-view on September 20 headlined by John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar, with the show set to go head-to-head with AEW All Out. This won’t be the last instance of WWE running against AEW in 2025, with Bryan Alvarez saying the following on Wrestling Observer Live:
“I was actually told that there is going to be one other instance this year where WWE is going to be countering an AEW show. I don’t know what it is, but there’s going to be at least one more,” said Alvarez.
WWE have aggressively counter-programmed major AEW events in 2025, mainly putting NXT PLEs up against AEW PPVs. AEW All In Texas weekend saw WWE counter-programme with Saturday Night’s Main Event, NXT’s Great American Bash, and Evolution II all on the same weekend. WWE have also booked NXT Heatwave to run against AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on August 24.
