WWE Reportedly 'Very Happy' With Mainstream Publicity From Joe Gacy Gimmick

Gacy was rumoured to be pulled following his debut

WWE are reportedly 'very happy' with the wide mainstream attention the Joe Gacy character has received since debuting on NXT 2.0.

Gacy unveiled a new character on the September 20 episode of NXT; a 'woke' individual who is determined to make NXT's ring a safe space. The character received mainstream media coverage from the likes of FOX News, The New York Post, and The Daily Mail, with each describing the character as rallying against the 'woke left'.

In the aftermath of the coverage, WWE pulled all content on YouTube and their website relating to the Gacy character from his debut, suggesting that the gimmick had been shelved following the national media attention.

However, those beliefs were proved to be unfounded as Gacy returned on this past week's NXT 2.0, saying he would not be cancelled.

In update, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is now reporting that officials in WWE are 'very happy' with the mainstream media headlines and attention received by Gacy, putting a greater spotlight on the revamped NXT product.

With Gacy increasing the attention on WWE, and NXT 2.0, it appears the character is here to stay.
