WWE Ring Boys Lawsuit To Continue Following Maryland Supreme Court Ruling
The WWE Ring Boys Lawsuit will continue
Feb 4, 2025
The ring boys lawsuit will be moving forward following a 4-3 ruling from the Maryland Supreme Court on Monday, February 3. The supreme court ruled that the Maryland Child Victims Act was constitutional.
The lawsuit filed by five former WWE ring boys against WWE, TKO, Vince McMahon, and Linda McMahon was paused in December after Federal Judge James K. Bredar ruled that the case should be halted until it was determined if the Maryland Child Victims Act was constitutional. The law, which was passed in 2023, removed the statute of limitations for civil lawsuits involving child sex abuse, including when negligence may have led to abuse.
Five former WWE ring boys filed a lawsuit in the Circuit Court for Baltimore County, Maryland in October 2024. It is alleged within the lawsuit that the defendants were "fully aware" of the sexual abuse that Mel Phillips carried out against the ring boys, yet they did nothing to prevent or stop it. Phillips allegedly groomed, exploited, and sexually abused underage boys in the 1980s and 1990s while employed by WWE.
The ring boys were underage boys who used to help set up the ring at WWE events. Mel Phillips worked under Terry Garvin as part of the ring boy crew.
