WWE Unhappy About AEW Using Billy Gunn

The former DX star appeared in last week's battle royal.

On AEW Dynamite last week, Billy Gunn made a surprise appearance in the Dynamite Dozen Battle Royal. He played into his "Ass Man" gimmick in a spot with Sonny Kiss. However, before they could complete the spot, the WWE Hall of Famer was eliminated by MJF.

According to Fightful Select, WWE were not pleased about Gunn's appearance, particularly as he used his WWE name. They reported: "There were comments about Billy Gunn using his WWE name on AEW Dynamite - more in the sense of displeasure among WWE as opposed to something that would lead to legal action."

Fightful did add that it was very unlikely that WWE would take legal action against Gunn.

While they may be unhappy, there is little the company can do to prevent Gunn from using the name, as he actually owns the trademark for it. In 2016, WWE failed to renew the trademark and Gunn himself swiped it up.

This appears to be a case of WWE being unhappy simply because he performed in AEW. Billy Gunn has wrestled under his WWE name on many occasions since 2016, including in New Japan and House of Hardcore - but the company appeared to be unconcerned then.
