WWE Women's Tag Team Title Tournament Begins On 8/8 Raw

New champions will be crowned

A tournament to crown brand new WWE Women's Tag Team champions will commence on this Monday's episode of WWE Raw.

It was announced during Friday night's SmackDown broadcast that a tournament to crown new titleholders will begin on this Monday's broadcast.

No participants have been announced for the tournament as of yet.

The titles were vacated on May 20, after then-champions Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out on WWE four nights earlier. Along with announcing that Banks and Naomi had been suspended from WWE, Michael Cole said that a tournament to crown new champions would take place down the line.

Banks and Naomi captured the titles at WrestleMania 38 on April 3 in Dallas, after defeating Carmella and Queen Zelina.

The Women's Tag Team titles were introduced in 2019. Banks and Bayley became the first champions that February 17 in Houston, after winning a six-way Elimination Chamber match for the vacant belts.

In addition to the start of the tournament, this Monday's Raw will also feature a United States title match pitting champion Bobby Lashley against challenger Ciampa.
