Pro wrestling was everywhere at the Republican National Convention on Thursday night as Donald Trump officially accepted the Republican Party nomination for president of the United States.

Ahead of Trump's nomination speech, former WWE CEO Linda McMahon had her own speech and discussed the first time she met the 45th president of the United States which led to a brief mention of WrestleMania 23.

"I first met Donald Trump when I was the CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment. For fun, he became part of some of the most compelling and highest-rated storylines in the company's history," McMahon said.

Back in 2007, Donald Trump entered into a rivalry with Vince McMahon on WWE TV that led to the Battle of the Billionaires at WrestleMania 23. Trump didn't wrestle at WWE's biggest event of the year but his chosen champion Bobby Lashley did defeat Umaga to ensure that Vince McMahon had his head shaved at WrestleMania. Trump still ended up taking a Stunner from Stone Cold Steve Austin at the show.

Linda McMahon is one of Trump's biggest donors and she has donated over $11 million to Donald Trump groups. Linda previously served in Trump's cabinet as the Small Business Administrator and she is currently the Chairwoman of the America First Policy Institute, a Trump-friendly nonprofit organisation that promotes Trump's public policy agenda.

Linda McMahon wasn't the only person with strong connections to WWE to speak at the Republican National Convention. Hulk Hogan had his own speech at the convention filled with his pro wrestling catchphrases.
