WWE WrestleMania 40 Main Event Revealed

WWE WrestleMania 40 main event has been revealed

The main event of WrestleMania 40 is official!

What should have been a straightforward announcement following Cody Rhodes' Royal Rumble win became increasingly complicated after the American Nightmare announced on last week's edition of SmackDown that he wouldn't be facing Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40. Rhodes came to this decision as he wanted to take everything from Reigns and after some counsel, he introduced The Rock, seemingly setting up the main event of WrestleMania 40 to be a battle between the Anoa'i family members.

It emerged soon after that the planned main event of WrestleMania 40 was The Rock vs. Roman Reigns but WWE have seemingly retconned Cody Rhodes' promo from SmackDown, pretty much ignoring it entirely at the WrestleMania press conference in Las Vegas on Thursday night.

The press conference initially featured Roman Reigns choosing The Rock as his WrestleMania opponent which brought out The Rock and an image of the Anoa'i family tree, during which Dwayne Johnson claimed his match with Reigns would be the biggest ever (only two years after WWE claimed Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38 would be the biggest ever).

After this, though, Cody Rhodes interrupted, having made his decision earlier in the day, and he called the proceedings between Rock and Reigns "bulls**t." Rhodes then announced he would, in fact, be facing Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 40 after all before adding that Reigns and Rock's grandfathers would be ashamed of them which led to The Rock slapping Rhodes.

One pull-apart brawl later between The Rock, Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, and Seth Rollins and everyone was heading to the back. More drama looks to be on the horizon, however, as The Rock (alongside Roman Reigns) told Triple H to "fix" this backstage.

After all of that, WWE officially announced the main event of WrestleMania 40 will be Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes II for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

Another match already announced for WrestleMania is IYO SKY vs. Bayley for the WWE Women's Championship. Becky Lynch and Women's World Champion Rhea Ripley also had a staredown, signalling they will face each other at WrestleMania if Becky Lynch wins the Elimination Chamber match at the namesake pay-per-view on February 24.
