2024 saw the unexpected in-ring return of Nigel McGuinness, with the legendary former Ring of Honor World Champion working three matches across ROH and AEW.

McGuinness’ comeback came during the Casino Gauntlet match at AEW All In Wembley in August 2024, and one of McGuinness’ fellow competitor’s in the match Zack Sabre Jr. wants to go one-on-one with Nigel, telling Pro Wrestling Illustrated:

“To be able to have a close friend’s song play me out in Wembley Stadium against a British wrestler like Nigel, that I’d come to terms with never getting to wrestle before, and then to actually have it so well received, seems like I’ve just made it up. The fact that that’s actually a real thing that happened was just a highlight of an insane year,” said Sabre Jr.

The IWGP World Heavyweight Champion continued:

“He still owes me a singles match as well. Big Nige looks very, very genki – healthy in Japanese – he’s in the shape of his career. Although I do wish he had his old hair… I’ve been able to wrestle some really incredible wrestlers, and I’ve come to terms with never getting to wrestle Nigel in a one-on-one match, but I think that has to happen at some point.”

After All In, McGuinness had his long-awaited rematch with former ROH rival Bryan Danielson, and would also take on Lee Moriarty for the ROH Pure Championship inside the fabled Hammerstein Ballroom in December.
