Update On Nigel McGuinness' In-Ring Status Following Surprise ROH Final Battle Match
What does Nigel McGuinness' in-ring future look like?
Dec 29, 2024
Nigel McGuinness returned to the ring in 2024 for the first time in over a decade. His first appearance as an in-ring competitor came at the AEW All In: London 2024, competing as a surprise entrant in the Casino Gauntlet bout. He followed this up with a match against former rival Bryan Danielson at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam, and wrapped up the year stepping up as the mystery opponent for ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty at ROH Final Battle 2024.
Fightful Select have provided some information on where he sits going forward due to now both being an active competitor and a commentator. Despite not returning to the ring until August 2024, it is noted that he was ready for a match and in in-ring shape since all the way back at All Out 2023, but AEW did not creatively have the right match to bring him back.
Going forwards, Fightful Select have stated that McGuinness is expected to continue wrestling, though there isn’t word of how often this is expected to happen. Fightful Select were also not told of any current creative plans for McGuinness. He has been a commentator in AEW since signing with the promotion in 2023, and this is set to continue.
